وَ الصَّافَّاتِ صَفًّا

و الصّافّات صفّا

Waalssaffati saffan

سوگند به آن فرشتگان که براي نيايش صف ، بسته اند ،

سوگند به فرشتگان صف در صف.

سوگند به فرشتگانى كه صفوف خود را آراسته‏اند.

سوگند به صف بستگان [مانند فرشتگان، نمازگزاران و جهادگران] که صفی [منظم و استوار] بسته اند،

سوگند به فرشتگان كه صف كشيده‏اند صف كشيدنى

سوگند به صف بستگان -كه صفى [با شكوه‏] بسته‏اند-

سوگند به صف‏آرايان

سوگند به فرشتگان صف كشيده.

سوگند بفرشتگان صف كشيده صف كشيدنى

سوگند به [فرشتگان‏] صف بسته

سوگند به (فرشتگان) صف‌کشیده (و منظّم)

سوگند به آن صف‏زدگان- فرشتگان صف‏كشيده- كه [به طاعت و بندگى‏] صف زده‏اند.

سوگند بفرشتگان صف كشيده صف كشيدنى

سوگند بدانان كه صف بندند صف بستنى

قسم به صف زدگان (چون فوج فرشتگان یا نماز گزاران یا سپاه اهل ایمان) که صف آرایی کرده‌اند.

قسم به صف زدگان صف آرايي کرده .

And the expanded and motionless wings in a row, arranged .

By those (angels) ranged in ranks (or rows).

By the rangers ranging

CONSIDER these [messages] ranged in serried ranks, [Regarding the adjurative particle wa and my rendering it as «Consider», see first half of note on 74:32. Most of the classical commentators assume that verses 1-3 refer to angels – an assumption which Abu Muslim al-Isfahani (as quoted by Razi) rejects, stating that the passage refers to the true believers among human beings. However, Razi advances yet another (and, to my mind, most convincing) interpretation, suggesting that what is meant here are the messages (ayat) of the Quran, which – in the commentator’s words – «deal with various subjects, some speaking of the evidence of God’s oneness or of the evidence of His omniscience, omnipotence and wisdom, and some setting forth the evidence of [the truth of] prophetic revelation or of resurrection, while some deal with man’s duties and the laws [relating thereto], and yet others are devoted to the teaching of high moral principles; and these messages are arranged in accordance with a coherent system above all [need of] change or alteration, so that they resemble beings or things standing `in serried ranks›.» ]

Ik zweer bij de engelen, die zich in orde scharen.

I swear by those who draw themselves out in ranks

Yemin olsun o saf bağlayıp dizilenlere/o saflar tutturup sıraya dizilenlere-o kanatlarını açıp toplayarak uçanlara,

By the aligners (angels) aligning.

Those vanguards who set up ranks (in order to defend the Divine System).

By the angels ranged in order for Songs of Praise,

By the angels, who rank themselves in order;

By those who range themselves in close ranks,
