أَ ذلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُزُلاً أَمْ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّومِ

آيا خورش را اين بهتر، يا درخت زقوم ؟

آيا اين پيشكش بهتر است يا درخت زقوم؟

آيا اين مقام و منزلت بهشت، بهتر است يا درخت زقوم؟

آیا این [بهشت جاودان پر نعمت] برای پذیرایی بهتر است یا درخت زقّوم؟

آيا آن (چه گفته شد از انواع نعمتها) خوبست از نظر پيشكشى يا درخت زقوم

آيا از نظر پذيرايى اين بهتر است يا درخت زقوم؟!

آيا اين (نعمتها) بهتر است يا درخت زقوم؟

آيا اين بهتر است بجايگاه يا درخت زقّوم؟

آيا آن بهتر است از حيث مايه ضيافت يا درخت زقوم

آيا براى پذيرايى اين بهتر است يا درخت زقّوم؟

آیا این (نعمتهای جاویدان بهشتی) بهتر است یا درخت (نفرت‌انگیز) زقّوم؟!

آيا اين براى پذيرايى و مهمانى بهتر است يا درخت زقوم [كه در ميان دوزخ رسته است‏]؟

آيا آن بهتر است از حيث مايه ضيافت يا درخت زقوم

آيا اين بهتر است پيشكشى يا درخت تلخكام زقّوم

آیا این پذیرایی (و مقام عالی) بهتر است یا درخت زقّوم جهنم؟

آيا اين سرنوشت بهتري است، يا آن درخت تلخ؟

Is that a better place of descent or the deadly food’s tree?

Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqoom (a horrible tree in Hell)?

Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum?

Is such [a paradise] the better welcome – or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? [According to the lexicographers, the noun zaqqum (which occurs, apart from the present instance, in 44:43 and in 56:52 as well) denotes any «deadly food»; hence, the expression shajarat az-zaqqum, a symbol of hell, may be appropriately rendered as «the tree of deadly fruit» (undoubtedly identical with «the tree cursed in this Quran», mentioned in 17:60), symbolizing the fact that the otherworldly sufferings which the Quran describes as «hell» are but the fruit – i.e., organic consequence – of one’s evil deeds done on earth.]
