فَجَعَلْناهُمْ سَلَفاً وَ مَثَلاً لِلآْخِرِينَ

فجعلناهم سلفا و مثلا للآخرين

FajaAAalnahum salafan wamathalan lil-akhireena

آنان را در شمار گذشتگان و داستان براي آيندگان کرديم

و آنان را پيشينه و مايه عبرت واپسينان گردانديم.

و هلاك آن قوم را مايه عبرت آيندگان قرار داديم.

در نتیجه آنان را پیشگامان [دوزخیان] و عبرتی برای آیندگان قرار دادیم.

و قرار داديم ايشان را پيشرو دوزخيان و پندى براى آيندگان

و آنان را پيشينه‏اى [بد] و عبرتى براى آيندگان گردانيديم.

و آنان را در شمار گذشتگان و عبرت آيندگان قرار داديم.

پس آنها را به پيشينيانشان پيوستيم، و آن را عبرتى براى آيندگان كرديم.

پس قرارداديمشان سابق و مثلى براى پسينيان

سپس آنان را براى آيندگان پيشينه و مايه عبرتى قرار داديم

و آنها را پیشگامان (در عذاب) و عبرتی برای دیگران قرار دادیم.

پس آنان را گذشتگانى- پيشروانى براى كافران آينده- و پندى و عبرتى براى پسينيان كرديم.

پس قرار داديمشان سابق و مثلى براى پسينيان

پس گردانيديمشان گذشته و نمونه اى براى بازماندگان

و هلاک آن قوم را مایه عبرت آیندگان قرار دادیم.

ما آنها را سرمشق و مثالي براي ديگران قرار داديم.

So We made them an advance/past (precedent), and an example/proverb to the ends/lasts/others.

And We made them a precedent (as a lesson for those coming after them), and an example to later generations.

and We made them a thing past, and We appointed them for an example to later folk.

and so We made them a thing of the past, and an example to those who would come after them.
