وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ

ودّوا لو تدهن فيدهنون

دوست دارند که نرمي کني تا نرمي کنند

خوش دارند كه با آنان سازگارى كنى تا با تو سازگارى كنند.

كافران دوست دارند كه تو با آنان سازش كنى تا با تو كنار آيند.

دوست دارند نرمی کنی تا نرمی کنند،

كافران دوست دارند كه نرمى كنى (با ايشان) تا ايشان نيز نرمى كنند

دوست دارند كه نرمى كنى تا نرمى نمايند.

آنها مدارايت را دوست دارند تا در برابرت انعطاف نشان دهند.

دوست دارند كه [تو در كار دين‏] نرمى كنى، [تا آنها نيز سخت نگيرند و] نرمى كنند.

آرزو كردند كاش نرمى كنى پس نرمى كنند

آرزو كردند كه [با آنان‏] سازگارى كنى تا [آنان نيز] سازگارى كنند

آنها دوست دارند نرمش نشان دهی تا آنها (هم) نرمش نشان دهند (نرمشی توأم با انحراف از مسیر حق)!

دوست دارند كه نرمى كنى تا نرمى كنند.

آرزو كردند كاش نرمى كنى پس نرمى كنند

دوست داشتند كنار آبى (چاپلوسى كنى) تا كنار آيند

کافران بسیار مایلند که تو با آنها مداهنه و مداراکنی (و متعرض بتهاشان نشوی) تا آنها هم (به نفاق) با تو مداهنه و مدارا کنند.

آنها آرزو دارند كه تو سازش كني تا آنها نيز بتوانند سازش كنند.

They wished/desired if you grease/flatter with hypocrisy , so they grease/flatter with hypocrisy .

They wish that you should compromise (in religion out of courtesy) with them, so they (too) would compromise with you.

They wish that thou shouldst compromise, then they would compromise.

they would like thee to be soft [with them], so that they might be soft [with thee].

Zij begeeren, dat gij hen met zachtheid zoudt behandelen, en dan zouden zij u ook met zachtheid behandelen.
